Created with feeling
One evening, we put the remote down and started talking.
Not about nothing. We had been sitting on the couch the way you do when the week has used you up — Netflix open, scrolling, finding nothing. But instead of watching something we had already seen, we had a conversation that had been quietly waiting to happen.
We had more to give. That much we both knew. Somewhere between the job, the school run, and the evening routine, there was something we were supposed to be building. Something that was ours. Something that gave back to the world instead of just consuming it.
That conversation is where Sobani began.
A name with a story inside it
We spent a long time on the name.
What we landed on does something quietly extraordinary: it holds our family inside it, and it carries a meaning we did not plan for until we discovered it was already there.
Sobani is built from the first syllables of the three people at the heart of this — our little family, the reason we do everything we do.
And then we found out that sobani is also a Japanese word. It means by your side.
We could not have written it better ourselves.
From idea to something real
Sobani started scrappily. A lot of sketching, a lot of second-guessing, more conversations than we can count about what the brand should feel like, what it should stand for, what kind of clothing we actually wanted to put into the world.
The first real moment — the one where it stopped feeling like a plan and started feeling like a thing — was when we got the mock-up back for our first design. The graphic on the garment, translated from a screen into fabric. It looked exactly the way we had imagined it. Maybe better. Something shifted in that moment that is hard to put back.
But the moment that made it undeniably real? The first time someone we did not know bought something. Not a friend doing us a favour. Not a family member being supportive. A stranger, somewhere, chose to spend their money on something we had made.
That is the moment you stop saying we have a project and start saying we have a brand.
What Sobani actually is
Sobani is a Belgian clothing brand, built in the Antwerp region, launched in November 2025. We work in two main directions.
SOBANI INK. is our graphic streetwear line — tattoo-inspired, bold, designed with the same obsessive attention to detail that goes into a real tattoo. Every piece starts as a drawing. The graphic is the garment, not a decoration added to it.
SOBANI BASICS is the other side of that coin: organic cotton essentials that work harder than they look. Clean, considered, made to last — and to be worn in a hundred different ways.
And then there is SOBANINI — our kids line. Because the little ones deserve something just as good.
Our tagline is Yours. Truly. Two words that mean more than they first appear. Because that is what we are trying to make: clothing that actually feels like yours. Not a logo you are wearing for someone else. Not a trend you will regret in six months. Something you reach for because it feels right.
Why we are telling you this
We are a small, independent brand. No investor, no marketing department, no team of ten. Just us, Antwerp, and a genuine belief that building something meaningful — something that contributes rather than just exists — is worth every difficult evening spent working on it.
We started Sobani because we wanted more from our lives than a comfortable loop. We wanted to create something. To put something into the world with our hands and our choices and our taste, and let other people decide whether it resonates with them.
If you are reading this, maybe something already did.
